Mylar Scan to CAD Conversion
Turn Old-School Blueprints into Shop-Ready CAD Files
Have a backlog of old Mylar drawings collecting dust? We focus on turning old paper and film drawings into clear, editable CAD models. These models are ready for quoting, machining, fabrication, or full assembly rebuilds.
We have worked with small machine shops, large manufacturers, and aerospace companies. One thing is always true: you cannot build accurately from a warped, 60-year-old Mylar print. We’re here to fix that.

Why It Matters to the Shop Floor
If you're in manufacturing, precision isn't optional. And those old Mylar drawings? They might have been fine when they were made, but over time, even the best-stored film shrinks, warps, and distorts.
You end up with:
- Parts that don’t match
- Tolerances that are off
- Hours wasted trying to "eyeball" dimensions from a bad scan
We’ve seen it all — drawings off by up to 2 inches on large formats. That’s why we don’t simply scan your Mylar and hand you a file. We rebuild your drawings with precision Mylar digitization.

What Our Process Looks Like
Here’s how we do it:
1. Scan & Analyze
We digitize each Mylar sheet, even large-format drawings (size J and up), and check for warping, shrinkage, or distortions.
2. Calibration & Restoration
Using our proprietary rubber sheeting method, we realign the scanned image to its original dimensions. We’ve tuned this conversion process over years — even aerospace OEMs rely on it.
We achieve ±0.005" accuracy over 10 inches — good enough for aerospace, more than enough for fabrication.
3. CAD Conversion
We rebuild the drawings as real CAD models — not traced images or junk geometry. You receive fully editable 2D or 3D (we can convert 2D drawings to 3D CAD models) files. These files include dimensions, tolerances, and materials. You can also add optional metadata, like feature trees or revision history.
4. Delivery in Your Format
We support all major CAD software:
- SolidWorks
- AutoCAD / Inventor
- CATIA
- Siemens NX
- Creo (Pro/E)
- Revit and others
Need it uploaded to your PLM system? No problem — we can structure the files to fit directly into your workflow. Just say which file format you prefer.

Who We Help
We’ve converted millions of drawings across industries:
- Machine shops looking to modernize legacy parts and optimize manufacturing processes
- Fabricators who need fast, accurate quotes
- Aerospace suppliers managing old OEM prints
- Heavy equipment rebuilders with out-of-print parts
- QA and reverse-engineering teams rebuilding product lines
We even supported Boeing with the restoration of thousands of Mylar drawings as part of a long-term archival conversion project.
Whether you're restoring a one-off bracket or rebuilding an entire assembly line, we can scale to match your job.

Benefits for Manufacturers
- Faster Quoting to save time and money
- Accurate high quality CAD speeds up RFQs, especially when tight tolerances matter.
- Smoother Production
- No more “guessing” dimensions from blurry scans or drawings that don’t match.
- Better Documentation
- Add metadata like materials, tolerances, and revision tracking — all in native CAD.
- Future-Proofing
- Digital files are safe from warp, fade, or disappear over time. Your parts are preserved and ready to cut, bend, or machine.

No Job Too Large or Too Small
Do you have a single drawing? We’ll process that.
Have a backroom full of Mylars stacked in boxes? We’ve got the team, systems, and experience to tackle high-volume work. Our 100+ engineers and CAD techs can turn around full archives in as short as 24 hours — depending on complexity and scope.
