How Does it Work?

After 3D scanning your part with any Artec 3D scanner, you would upload the point cloud to Geomagic Design X. Once it gets uploaded, you’re left with a part that roughly looks like what you just scanned, plus a lot of background noise and random colors.

Design X allows you to select parts of the scan and fine-tune them. To start, you can select just the 3D scanned image and get rid of all the other artifacts that came with the scanned point cloud. There are also built-in tools that allow for mesh refinement and optimization of your scan, which CAD programs don’t have.

Since Design X was made for your Artec scanner, it has a lot more functionality. Through a few clicks, you can generate a feature-based CAD model that’s ready for production. Whether you’re going to machine or 3D print the scanned part, you can get started even sooner with this accompanying software.
