2D Scanner

Contex SD One+

The Contex SD One+ is a great entry-level 2D scanner for engineering departments that don’t expect large throughput on their scanners. As a Contex machine, the SD One+ comes with the same superior scanning speed, quality, and reliability that you would expect. However, this scanner comes with a much smaller price tag and fewer additional bells and whistles.

To put it simply, the Contex SD One+ is the perfect scanner for any engineer who has some legacy drawings they want to digitize, but they don’t want to go overboard. The SD One+ comes in two different sizes, a 24” and a 36” configuration. Besides a size difference, the two scanners are identical.

As a CIS 2D scanner, you won’t get the incredible quality that CCD scanners offer, but you also get incredible affordability that you don’t find with CCD scanners. The tagalong software, NextImage, does a lot of algorithm-based cleanup on each 2D scan, further increasing the quality and accuracy of every drawing you scan with the Contex SD One+.

At its highest-quality scanning setting, you can easily scan a massive E-sized drawing in less than 45 seconds on the Contex SD One+ 36. Engineers who own a Contex SD One+ can digitize, convert, and transfer their collection of hand drawings into professional-grade 3D CAD models.

Features and Benefits

Large-Format Scanning That Works for You

As with any other Contex scanner, the Contex SD One+ is a large-format 2D scanner that was designed for engineering teams just like yours. This scanner is supposed to seamlessly integrate into your workflow, and take a lot of the stress out of your conversion processes. The Contex SD One+ takes up very little floorspace with its optimized low-profile setup, and it’s ready for scanning in seconds. This scanner can be upgraded with a ScanStation to make it an all-in-one 2D scanning workstation.

Great for Small-Scale Projects

Companies like to buy the Contex SD One+ for small-scale projects that might pop up. Since it’s so affordable, it won’t blow your budget to buy this scanner, even if you don’t have an immediate need for it.

  • Very affordable option. As the most affordable option on Contex’s sales catalog, the Contex SD One+ is perfect for entry-level 2D scanning.
  • Good reliability and accuracy. Despite the low price, Contex still achieves up to 9600 dpi thanks to its sophisticated companion software, NextImage.
  • Effortlessly digitizes your drawings. You can transform your physical drawings into digital files with ease, thanks to the Contex SD One+.

Perfect for Engineers

Engineers from different industries and applications can benefit from having a Contex SD One+ in-house. This small scanner can have a big impact on your digitization workflows.

  • Versatile application. As a large-format scanner, this machine can fit into almost any industry or application and start saving you time.
  • Easy-to-use machine. This simple machine can be run by interns with no problems, and you don’t need previous experience to have success with the Contex SD One+.
  • Fits perfectly in your office. Thanks to its low profile, the Contex SD One+ can fit into any corner of your office without taking up too much space.

Long-Term Scanning Solution

The Contex SD One+ is perfect for companies who have scanning projects come and go over time. Once installed, the Contex SD One+ can scan images after being powered off for months.

  • No ongoing maintenance required. As a CIS 2D scanner, you don’t have to worry about long-term calibration or maintenance of the machine.
  • Very repeatable scanner. You’ll achieve repeatable results without a drop-off in quality or power over time.
  • Can easily move around your building. Equipped with convenient wheels, the Contex SD One+ can move around your building as your office setup changes over time.

More About This Technology

2D scanners using Contact Imaging Sensor (CIS) technology tend to be more reliable and easier to maintain. In this technology, there is no image size reduction with a lens at all, as there is in CCD 2D scanning. With CIS scanning, a number of tiny fiber optic sensors are installed in a grid that transfers information from the scanned image into the scanner in a 1:1 scale.

This simpler setup removes all ability for distortion from a lens and it removes the need for images to be stitched together in order to create the final file. In addition, you won’t have to worry about calibrating cameras or specifying a depth of field.

However, Contex has solved a lot of the shortcomings associated with CIS scanners — largely the lack of color and potential for added noise during scanning — through their sophisticated NextImage software. The software uses a revolutionary algorithm to optimize every 2D scan you make.

The scanning process for a CIS is no different than a CCD 2D scanner. To scan, you would feed in your large-format engineering drawings, choose what file format you’d like the output to be, and hit the “go” button. The scanner will move your drawing using rollers, and then capture all of the visual data through those fiber optic sensors. The scanner’s software will compile all of the information, generate a digital version of your drawing, and then create the output file you specified.
