Our U.S.-based engineering team supports clients throughout North America and internationally, providing secure CAD services for commercial, aerospace, defense, industrial, and government organizations.
CAD/CAM Services provides Model-Based Definition (MBD) services that embed Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, notes, materials, and manufacturing requirements directly within the 3D CAD model. Our MBD deliverables support digital thread, digital twin, Industry 4.0, and model-based enterprise (MBE) initiatives while reducing reliance on traditional 2D drawings. We create MBD models in CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, and other major CAD platforms in accordance with ASME Y14.41 and customer-specific standards.
MBD FAQ’s
What is Model-Based Definition (MBD)?
Model-Based Definition (MBD) is the practice of embedding manufacturing information, such as dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), materials, notes, and inspection requirements, directly within a 3D CAD model rather than relying solely on traditional 2D engineering drawings. MBD enables a single authoritative source of product definition data throughout the design, manufacturing, quality, and inspection processes.
What are the benefits of MBD?
MBD improves communication between engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams by providing a single source of product definition. MBD reduces drawing interpretation errors, improves data consistency, supports digital thread and digital twin initiatives, accelerates product development, simplifies configuration management, and helps organizations transition to a Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) environment.
Which CAD software supports Model-Based Definition (MBD)?
Model-Based Definition (MBD) capabilities are available in leading CAD platforms, including CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, and other enterprise CAD systems. CAD/CAM Services develops MBD deliverables containing Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, notes, and inspection requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.41, customer specifications, and industry best practices. Our engineers support MBD implementations for aerospace, defense, automotive, medical device, industrial equipment, and advanced manufacturing applications.
Is Model-Based Definition (MBD) replacing traditional 2D drawings?
While many organizations are adopting Model-Based Definition (MBD) to reduce reliance on traditional engineering drawings, many industries continue to use a hybrid approach that combines 3D MBD models with 2D manufacturing drawings. CAD/CAM Services can support fully model-based workflows, traditional drawing-based workflows, or a combination of both, depending on customer requirements. The transition to MBD is particularly common in aerospace, defense, automotive, and advanced manufacturing organizations pursuing Digital Thread and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) initiatives.

CAD / CAM Services provides professional 3D CAD services, CAD modeling, CAD conversion, reverse engineering, CAD migration, and engineering documentation support for manufacturers, aerospace companies, defense contractors, medical device firms, and industrial organizations worldwide. Since 1988, our team of more than 100 engineers, designers, and drafters has completed thousands of projects using CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, and AutoCAD. Our CAD Perfect® quality standard helps clients accelerate product development, modernize legacy engineering data, and improve manufacturing readiness. We’ve had the honor of working with so many massive companies, including Boeing, Amazon, Airbus, the US Air Force, and many more. When you need any work on a 3D CAD file, we can do it fast and at a reasonable cost. Our 3D CAD services can either replace, enhance, or optimize your in-house engineering department. We can work alongside your engineers, work on completely different projects, or act as in-house engineers for companies that don’t have any engineers on staff.
AI-Assisted CAD Workflows
CAD / CAM Services leverages AI-assisted engineering workflows, automation tools, CAD scripting, and advanced modeling technologies to accelerate project delivery while maintaining engineer-reviewed quality standards. AI helps improve productivity, but all final engineering deliverables remain under the control of experienced CAD professionals.
WE support AI-driven engineering initiatives by providing high-quality CAD models, engineering drawings, point clouds, and manufacturing data used in machine learning, digital twin, and engineering automation applications.
Benefits of 3D CAD Services from CAD / CAM Services
When you choose CAD / CAM Services for your next 3D CAD project, you’ll notice a lot of major benefits:
Faster turnaround times.
With our team of over 100 engineers and drafters, we can commit to tighter turnaround times than other companies can. We stagger our shifts, so CAD / CAM Services is open and running 24/7. How valuable are faster turnaround times to your company?
A wider range of services.
We offer dozens of services under one roof. This means that you don’t need to remember any other engineer’s name; you just need to turn to CAD / CAM Services when you need help with a project.
Exceptional quality and attention to detail.
Our team undergoes regular training and continuous learning, and many of these development courses focus on quality and attention to detail. At our core, CAD/CAM Services focuses on quality above all else. It’s the only reason why we can offer CAD Perfect® drawings in the first place.
Complete transparency and honesty.
If we can’t help with a project, we’ll let you know before you give us a dime. We will never waste your time or money. If a mistake happens, we’re the first ones to admit it. We take pride in our ability to be transparent and honest with our customers, and we hope you appreciate this — it sets us apart from most other outsourced CAD companies.
A dedicated point of contact.
Most of our projects get assigned a single point of contact. If you want an update, have a question, need to make a change, or have an issue, you would contact a single person. By directing all communication through a single source, there’s less room for error and fewer missed points. Just call or email your assigned point of contact, and they’ll take care of it.
Full involvement in each project.
Our team can join your weekly meetings to provide updates, or you can call us at any time to check the project status. Consider us an extension of your team, and don’t be afraid to email us or call us to chat about the project.
Keeping your secrets safe.
We happily sign NDAs and keep all your intellectual property safe, even years after the project is completed. You can trust our team at CAD / CAM Services.
So-called “neutral” file formats like IGES and STEP were specifically created for the neutral exchange of 3D CAD data across different CAD packages. IGES was created in 1979 by a group of users (including Boeing and GE), with support from the Department of Defense (DoD) and NIST, to facilitate data exchange and simplify the product development process. Since the late ’80s, the DoD has required that all Digital Project Manufacturing Data (PMI) be deliverable in IGES format. STEP is an ISO standard, released in 1994, that serves as the “successor” to IGES. While widely used, it has never totally replaced the IGES format. Parasolid is the closest neutral format for the CAD files, produced by SolidWorks and other CAD systems based on the Parasolid kernel. ACIS is used by many CAD systems (such as AutoCAD and Inventor) as a geometry kernel.
