2D Scanner

Contex HD Ultra X

Contex’s lineup of HD Ultra X scanners is touted as the most efficient and flexible large format scanners on the market — and that claim isn’t made lightly. The sheer size, speed, and scan quality of these CCD 2D scanners puts Contex in its own category.

To put it simply, no scanner can do what the Contex HD Ultra X does. Contex has had so much success with this line of scanners that they make and sell 6 different configurations of the Ultra X:

  • HD Ultra X 3650
  • HD Ultra X 3690
  • HD Ultra X 4250
  • HD Ultra X 4290
  • HD Ultra X 6050
  • HD Ultra X 6090

With this list, your team can find the perfect 2D scanner for your application across a wide range of sizes, prices, and scanning speeds. Many engineering departments rely solely on a single HD Ultra X to handle all of their 2D scanning, digitization, and CAD conversions. That should speak to the power of these scanners.

At the same time, you don’t have to overpay for any of these scanners. Unless you need a professional-grade 2D scanner to handle long-term, full-time scanning operations, the Contex Ultra X is the best option for your engineering team. It has the reliability, speed, and quality that an everyday engineer needs. It will help you to digitize your inventory of drawings in a fraction of the time, without damaging the Mylar in the process.

Features and Benefits

Large-Format Scanning That Works for You

With any Contex scanner, your team has fewer headaches to worry about. The Contex Ultra X offers large-format scanning with an ease of use that you wouldn’t expect. A beginner can use this scanner and achieve great results. Plus, the Contex Ultra X will fit into any existing workflow you have with ease. The machines don’t take up too much floorspace, and the installation is incredibly easy. You can start 2D scanning your legacy hand-drawn engineering drawings in no time with a Contex Ultra X in your facility.

Faster Conversions

If you’re facing a stack of legacy drawings that you need to convert, you’ll need a scanner like the Contex Ultra X. This option will save you countless time, especially on larger projects.

  • Incredible speeds of 17.8 ips. With scanning speeds up to 17.8 inches per second, you can scan a full E-sized drawing in under 3 seconds.
  • Streamline your 2D to 3D conversions. Faster scanning equates to faster final 3D CAD files.
  • Fastest way to digitize your legacy drawings. The Contex Ultra X can digitize your hand drawings in a fraction of the time.

Great for Any Engineer

Almost any engineering department with hand drawings can benefit from the Contex Ultra X. This scanner is always available and ready to be used in your office, making each scanning project even easier.

  • Takes very little experience to use. We’ve had high school interns run our Contex Ultra X machines with no problems at all, so it’s an easy machine to use.
  • Compatible with many CAD programs. The Contex Ultra X works with a number of different CAD programs to make your conversion process even smoother.
  • Highly versatile scanners. Thanks to the available sizes, you can scan almost any drawing with a Contex Ultra X, streamlining countless processes and fitting well in any industry.

A Convenient Option

The Contex Ultra X is a fast, high-quality, and convenient way to bring your hand drawings into the 21st century. All it requires is a power outlet and an internet connection and you can start scanning.

  • The price is reasonable. Finding this much power in a 2D scanner at such an affordable rate is unheard of, making the Contex Ultra X even more appealing.
  • Installation and use are simple. The full installation process can be finished in a single morning, allowing you to start scanning documents in the same day.
  • Simple design saves floorspace. Instead of a massive scanning setup, the Contex Ultra X is a low-profile machine that saves floorspace. It will easily fit into a vacant corner of your office.

More About This Technology

A Charged Coupled Device (CCD) 2D scanner works just like your digital camera. The scanner itself has a lens that will reduce the scale of your image, which allows it to fully fit within the imaging sensor. Unlike your digital camera at home, a Contex scanner that uses CCD has an incredibly high-quality imaging sensor.

This allows the 2D scanner to capture high-quality, full-scale, color images of each drawing you scan, with even wider color space as compared to other 2D scanning technology. For large-format 2D scanning, the onboard camera might stitch together multiple images to create your final product. Through this technology, you’ll get image quality that is orders of magnitude better than CIS 2D scanning, with 64,000 shades of grey as compared to 256 shades offered by CIS scanners.

With a CCD scanner, environmental noise is much less impactful to the final quality and look of your scanned images. With a CCD 2D scanner, the operation is the same: you would feed in your large-format engineering drawings, choose what file format you’d like the output to be, and hit the “go” button. The scanner will move your drawing using rollers, and then capture a series of images with its sensors. On the backend, the 2D scanner will stitch together all of the images into a single, seamless image and send it in your desired file format.
